Hawaii real estate license and CE requirements

What the Hawaii Real Estate Commission (Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs) asks of licensees, with a link to the official source for every figure.

Last reviewed October 15, 2026. Next review due October 2027.

Hawaii renews every license on the same schedule, with all licenses expiring December 31 of even-numbered years and renewal filings due by November 30. Each biennium requires 20 hours: a Commission-designated core course in two 3-hour parts, plus 14 elective hours.

Timing matters with the core course. The prior biennium's version is offered only through May 31 of odd-numbered years, and a Hawaii licensee who misses it takes 20 elective hours instead. A salesperson licensed in an even-numbered year who renews by November 30 of that year is treated as having met the requirement.

Rules change. The Hawaii Real Estate Commission (Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs) is the only authority on what you need to renew; where this page and the official source disagree, the official source is right. Blank figures say "Check with the Hawaii Real Estate Commission (Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs)" because we could not confirm them from an official source.

Optional professional development

Once your CE is done, these ACI designations go deeper on the same ground as parts of the Hawaii requirements. They are voluntary, they are not CE, and you never need them to keep your license.
